You know you're a baseball geek when...

Today is my Dad's 85th birthday and we had a party for him at the nursing home where he lives. He introduced me to a volunteer and said his last name was Oliverio. I asked, "like the one-time ball player named Steve Oliverio?" He said yes and that Steve was his nephew. He then told me he played for the Reds in the minors. I looked him up and saw e never made it to the bigs, but pitched as high as AAA at Nashville for the team. I had it in my mind that he must have reached the majors since I remembered him. Now I'm remembering guys from the minors.

Back when Rain Man came out I went to see it with a group of friends. There is a scene early on where Raymond is asked who played first base vs the Cardinals on some date in July 1961. Before he gave his answer I leaned towards the girl on my side and said "Ted Kluszewski." Unfortunately I didn't add "Definitely Ted Kluszewski"

Similarly, I was in line at airport security at O'Hare a few weeks ago, and the TSA official had a badge that said her last name was Dismuke. I immediately thought of longtime Reds minor leaguer (and now coach) Jamie Dismuke.

Interesting tidbit on Steve Im not sure if hes still doing this but a couple of years ago he was a health/gym teacher I think at one of the high schools in northern kentucky.
