    Minor League Updates: Tuesday 6/18/2013

Once again a very limited schedule; two regularly scheduled games and some All-Star action.

    Louisville Bats at Durham Bulls:

Yohan Pino was handed the ball again and after a rough first inning, smothered the Bulls' bats. Pino allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in the first inning. And then ran the Bulls out of the contest for the next 5.2 innings. His final line: 6.2IP 7H 2R 2ER 2BB 4K. Zach Duke has this AAA thing down. He earned his second save with 2.1 perfect innings. He struck out 3. In 3 games covering 4.1 innings since joining the Bats, Duke has yet to allow a baserunner, striking out 4.

Neftali Soto went 3-4. He homered, singled twice, drove home two and scored a pair.
Emmanuel Burris went 3-5 in the game, all singles.
Denis Phipps and Nevin Ashley each singled, doubled and knocked in a run, Ashley also touched home once.

NOTE: Chris Heisey started his rehab assignment on Monday, when he went 2-4. He did not play at all on Tuesday. That seems strange to me.

NOTE: Billy Hamilton has hit (another) bump in the road. He is 0-10 in his last two games with 4Ks.

I'm hoping Zach Duke is Tony Cingrani's ticket back to a starting role in L'ville.

The DLS Rojos were home against the DSL Mets 1. Los Rojos jumped out to an 8-zip lead and then hung on to win 8-7.

Jose Salas' has made three starts early in the Dominican season. In two of those he has gone at least five innings, while allowing 0 earned runs. This game was a dandy. 6IP 2H 0R 0ER 1BB 2K.

Daniel Jimenez went 3-4. 2 singles, a double, 2 runs scored and 2 brought home.
Carlos Mateo and Luis Gonzalez each singled and doubled in four trips to the plate. Mateo scored twice. Gonzalez scored once and drove in two.
Francis Azcona remains on fire. He stroked a single, a triple, worked a walk and scored a run. Azcona has more walks than strike outs (11-10) early in the season. His line is .383/.500/.596/1.096. Worth keeping an eye on.

    In ASG action.

Neither Bakersfield representative played out West. As noted elsewhere, Muhammad is hurt and Contreras is either hurt or has been promoted.

In Dayton, Jesse Winker led his team to victory - in the home run hitting contest. In two rounds, Winker sent 10 over the fence.

In the game itself, Winker went 0-4. He did, however, gun down a runner at third.
Zach Vincej went 1-2 and drove in a run.
Sal Romano, Shaun Ellis, Ben Klimesh and Alejandro Chacin all pitched shutout baseball. None for more than an inning.
