    Xavier "The Professor" Paul

    .281 avg, 4 hr, 21 rbi, .379 obp, .813 ops

I was wondering how you guys view Xavier Paul. I think he's been a unsung hero this year and been a solid bench player. His power has been a surprise but his OBP is great. I think he may be a better player than Heisey. What doyou guys think?

The LF platoon has worked out better than anyone could have dreamed.

I often wonder if a healthy Ludwick would have been as productive as this combo, given his proclivity to be a "good year/bad year" kind of guy.

Egg Savior has been a very useful outfielder to have. I thought he had real potential as a prospect with the Dodgers and never really got a fair shake there, but he has still exceeded my expectations of him as a Red.

"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

He scares me in the outfield, but so does Choo. I have to give Stubbs a little more credit than I did.

I also think Dusty has played him to his strength.I have been pleased with the results of his offense.

His Terry Crowley as an Oriole impression is impressive so far

I think Dusty has handled the LF situation rather well -- if we assume that Choo remains the CF, the three-headed monster of Paul-Lutz-Robinson has been far better than most expected.

I am skeptical that Paul can continue to be so good with the bat -- and his D is nothing to write home about, so his bat has to be good. That said, I would have no problem keeping the X-Man around as a LH on the bench / 5th OF type. He's proven his worth in that regard.

He definitely provides professional PAs. Given his defense, I'd probably prefer not to use him with Arroyo on the mound, but otherwise I'd be giving him the bulk of the playing time. I'm not sure he can sustain an .800 OPS, but given our options, I'd let him try, perhaps spelling him with Robinson against tough lefties. I'd also love to see him bat 2nd even if that means L-L-L. Against a RH SP that's a plus and if the team brings in a LOOGY to face the top of the order, you can PH for him if necessary.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

A lot of us want to see that. But it's very unlikely that Baker will do it, IMO.

Earl Weaver always said Crowley could kill RH's but he couldn't hit LH and he wasn't a good fielder, but he refused to believe it. In 1980 he batted 276 times, 97% against RH and had a slash line of .288/.366/.482/.848

RMR, do you think Paul is a better option at #2 than, say, Votto or BP?

I personally think he is, but you'll never see him there, given the 3 lefties stuff.
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

I also wonder about the platoon vs. Ludwick as far as the order is concerned. If healthy, Ludwick would no doubt reside in the 4 leaving BP to bat elsewhere. The three-headed platoon has been in the 7/8 spot with the exception of DR in the 2 a few times.

Terry Crowley is lucky he's in ******* baseball for *****sakes, he was released by the Cincinnati Reds, he was released by the ****** ***damn Atlanta Braves, we saw that Terry Crowley could sit on his ***** ass for eight innings and enjoy watching the game just like any other fan, and have the ability to get up there and break one open in the ***** 9th. So if this ********** would mind his own business, and let me manage the ******* team, we'd be a whole lot better off.
