You would think that "damn" and "ass" would be "******" too.

I was wondering how you guys view Xavier Paul. I think he's been a unsung hero this year and been a solid bench player. His power has been a surprise but his OBP is great. I think he may be a better player than Heisey. What doyou guys think?
    Crazy thing is Joey Votto 29 rbi's - X Paul 21

Imagine Earl Weaver in the era of live mikes.

As I'm typing this, Professor X doubles. I like him. His minor league numbers weren't bad.

Okay, I know the answer to the math part is 8, but I'm not good at variables.

Earl was a treasure. I don't think he would care one way or the other about live mikes.

He's been tremendous thus far. I've been quite doubtful it would continue. I've downgraded my doubt to 'healthy skepticism.' Nonetheless, he's done everything asked of him and more. If he can keep this up, he's certainly an asset.

The walk rate is starting to normalize a bit with his career minor league and major league averages. If that happens completely, then his OBP will be only around average and his overall numbers won't look so hot. We'll see, though. I'm hopeful.

    Nope. My lineup is:

    Choo
    Votto
    Frazier
    Bruce
    Phillips
    Paul
    Cozart
    Pitcher
    Hanigan

But then again, I'm crazy in following the logic provided by the sabermetric studies that say #2 and #4 are most important and that #3 and #5 are less so, but equally important to each other (but that #3 emphasizes HR and #5 emphasizes base hits).

But if I'm operating in Dusty's world where Votto bats 3rd and BP cleans up, I'd much rather Paul up there than Cozart.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

One thing I've also noticed is he seems so chilled out. Looks like he's so relaxed he might just take a little nap on home plate right before he jumps all over the room service cheese. Cool customer. Ice Man. Mr Smooth.

To appreciate XPaul, I think you have to look beyond stats. He doesn't have a very long major league resume, the stats are sketchy. (Minor league stats are very good.)

Just watch him hit. He swings at the good pitches, he keeps his balance. When Paul hits a long ball, it's like a perfect golf drive, great hip turn, gets all his power in it.

Paul is just a very sound hitter and eventually the stats were going to come. He may have better numbers, or worse numbers, year to year, but he's a good guy for the Reds to have.

Outside of the regulars, where would this team be without Xavier Paul and Cingrani.

The two unsung heroes at this point, not consider a regular.

All of the anecdotal things are nice, but at the end of the day, it's the production that matters. One can have a nice sports car with the most amazing paint job in the world, but if the car is constantly breaking down, it doesn't matter how good it looks.

Paul's worth is still going to come down to whether he maintains his production or reverts back to his career averages. As the days go along, it's looking more possible that he maintains something close to what he's doing. But the jury is still out.
