Things I want to learn how to do

These are things I want to learn how to do (before I die):

    A. Play the guitar.
    B. Play chess.
    C. Change the oil in my car.
    D. Learn intermediate Spanish. Please note that I took beginning Spanish quite a few times. I used to work in a paint store so I'm fluent enough to get by.

What say you RZ? What do you want to do?

Wow, If I were you I could literally die.

Mine mostly involves travel. Need to think on it more.

I can sing and even read music, but man, I can't make heads or tails of a guitar.

I'd like to learn to play bass guitar and learn Japanese.

When I lived in Sydney, I decided I wanted to learn to surf. Problem was, I couldn't swim. So I found someone who tried to teach me, and found out I have an actual phobia--whenever my head went underwater, had a panic attack. I have since discovered that what I remember as a minor incident at a swimming pool when I was small was actually a near drowning, and this is likely the cause. Funny thing is, I'm not actually afraid of being in the water; I just have panic attacks when I go under. So, surfing's out.

That only leaves learning the guitar. I'm kind of old for that now, but I still want to.

Although I would like to learn to speak/read French as well, so I could write a good bio of Lafayette. I don't think an even-toned one exists. I'd also like to learn Chinese, simply because I've had a lot of Chinese friends over the years. Seems a bit difficult, though.

I've done b and c. I'm not very good at chess because I tend to live in the moment. I like backgammon better.

    Nice thread.

I want to learn woodworking, like building tables and maybe a chest of drawers or something.
    Lift weights well.
Cook. Grilling does not apply. I can grill just fine.
    Piano.
    Hunt.

    Maybe in that order.

Curious on the bolded Wildcat. What constitutes lifting them "well"?

As for what I'd like to learn to do, I've been studying up on starting my own side business lately and I'd like to learn more about investments as well.

Go to any gym and watch most of the young men there, yanking and grunting like they are passing kidney stones. That is not lifting well.

In my experience, 1/4 reps, dangerous form, and ridiculous routines, all among the myriad of other things going wrong in the gym, are not age or gender biased.

It's a combination of doing it with some kind of strategy and doing it regularly, and effectively. I don't really know--all I know is a weight room at a gym is really intimidating to me, and I'm not at a place where I can afford a trainer more than once a month or something.
