Where do the Reds rank in attendance this year?

Also having 10% of the franchises located in SE Wisconsin and Chicago is antiquated with <4% of the US population in that region.

Move the White Sox to Charlotte, move the Pirates to Austin/San Antonio as Texas needs an NL franchise. Move the Rays to Orlando or at least on the right side of the Tampa Bay area. Florida will be 21-22M population by 2020 and over 30M by 2050, hard to argue that two teams shouldn't be down here.

The old retiree fogies in Florida have proven again and again that they will not go to the games. But they will watch on TV. And as someone said earlier, that counts almost as much these days.

Rockies (32,826), Atlanta (31027), Balt (28,028), Arizona (28,212) are decent comps for much bigger markets with contending teams.

Pitiful would be the Pirates, down 1600 a game and averaging 22,411. And the A's averaging 21,468. The Rays attendance is simply inexcusable. ANd the Indians attendance problems aren't getting any better.

I've said before that one of the Pirates/Indians will need to be moved in the next 20 years as the markets are no longer sustainable for two teams in population losing NW Ohio/Western PA. Texas needs a third team placed somewhere between Austin and San Antonio.

Denver is not a "much bigger" market compared to Cincinnati. Denver is the 21st largest MSA in the country, Cincinnati is 28th. And Denver doesn't have the surrounding population from Dayton, Columbus, Louisville, Lexington and SE Indiana to draw from within a two-hour radius that Cincinnati has.

A two hour radius is not much of an advantage. How many people are really going to get off work and spend 4 hours traveling to a ballgame in the middle of the week?

Coors field holds a lot more people too. So when they sell out on the weekend games they get 8000 more people vs. a GABP sellout.

If baseball was a weekend only game your idea about other cities would make sense. Yet baseball happens at 7PM on a weekday and sometimes middle of the day on a weekday. Who wants to leave work at 5 to get to the game just in time and then get home after midnight? What you need to do is look at television and radio ratings, and that is where you will see the Reds are one of the best if not the best. That is where those markets come into play. That and weekend games, where, as mentioned, the Rockies have the advantage of a bigger ballpark.

That is a good question. They are averaging just over 30,000 this season, which isn't bad at all. In April they averaged just 25,690 and that includes opening day of 43,000+. In May the average was 34, 727. So far in June it is 32,811.

For Friday-Sunday games they are averaging 36,059.
For Monday-Thursday games they are averaging 24,585. If we remove opening day from that they are averaging just 23, 492.

Basically, the Reds need to find a way to get people to show up during the week. The weekends do pretty darn good.

Since I don't live in Cincinnati...I do not know what the vibe is there for people NOT to go...especially after the long 10 years of average to bad baseball. The question has to be asked. I am sure questionnaires are sent out to ask people what they would like out of their ballpark experience.

Looking back it is tough to say if there were weather concerns for certain days or not.

In general, I don't think the weather is any more of a factor than last year.

I don't understand the tone of most of the posts in this thread. If anything, attendance is greatly trending upwards for the Reds. Even compared to last year -- when we won our second NL Central title in the last three years -- attendance is far better this season. I think times have changed and the Reds will be in the upper-half of MLB attendance for a while.

If you look at the numbers, there are a lot of teams barely above the Reds who are having bad seasons. Naturally, those teams will see their attendance fade (teams like the Twins, Blue Jays and Brewers specifically) if they find themselves out of the race, while the Reds' attendance will stay high or perhaps continue to get higher if we stay in the race as expected. We're sure to eventually surpass those teams as far as 2013 attendance. Also, there are zero teams that are currently behind us (18-30) who have a chance at passing us. We'll finish top-14 for sure.

I like where we're at attendance-wise. It seems we've finally turned the corner this year. This will be our highest yearly attendance since ... when? Certainly a very long time. We're the second-smallest media market in MLB, in front of only Milwaukee, and we'll finish this season ranked in the top-15 in MLB in attendance. That's pretty damn good. Then you factor in our off-the-charts TV ratings to go with it and there's no doubt Reds Country is vast and is supporting this team.

We don't know mikes lifestyle....maybe he is retired and has all day to do whatever he wants so be plays around on our sore because he likes us and respects us.....beating a dude down for coming here and bringing valid points is worse than him coming here......he brings up good points about attendance, why can arguably the best team in MLB not sell out more games? Good question considering we are not a flash in the pan team. We've been good for 3-4 years now. Competing for a title for 2-3 years now. No sense in not filling our stadium like other winners do. If we want to sustain this thing then we need money to do it and unless we fill the seats we are just going to keep hitting reset every 6-9 years and hope for some minor league players to hit. If that's the case, lets sit back and enjoy this year and maybe 2 more then get ready to hit reset and rebuild around Joey.
