With 14 HR he is on pace for 25+ HR. It wasn't looking that way earlier....they snuck up on me.

So... does this thread have to do with the new contract? Did Joey's new deal include some "never ever screw up" clause? Because folks are acting like he doesn't have the right to have off games here and there. Guy is human -- sometimes refreshingly so -- and I don't think we should be getting all worked up if he has a few mistakes.

But maybe that's just me. If so, carry on.

What does he look like when he's interested? How can you differentiate between an interested/ locked in Votto and one who is distracted or disinterested?

I used to be able to tell the difference. But that was before he was reprimanded for the F-bombs.

Now he just seems to emit a preternatural Zennish calm.

I've read what you've had to say about Votto on the Sun Deck, and lets just say you should probably pump the brakes on that before you tell us again up here.

Votto is currently third in the NL in OPS.

He's a bum. Send him down to work on his fundamentals.

They don't pay him to hit for a high OPS. Oh, wait...

Re: Votto: where's his head lately?

Are we talking about his ops or his boneheaded plays on defense?
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

According to the original poster, we are talking about both:

    max venable:
    Votto: where's his head lately?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

He's obviously a great player. Lately, however, he just hasn't been sharp...yes, at the plate, but even more so in the field and on the bases. Today's game vs. Milwaukee is case in point:

Picked off of first in the first inning
the base hit by Yovani Gallardo, he made a very poor attempt at the ball...that ball is snagged by most MLB 1B.

Over the past week or so we've seen him drop an easy pop up and a few games ago he dropped a couple for fairly routine throws to first base.

All the while, he's hitting .229 so far in June. So it's not just his lapses on the field and on the bases, his hitting is suffering, too. So, to me, it begs the question...Where's his head at right now?

He just saved Bailey's no hitter by having his head in the game.

Huh. Turns out it was right there under his hat the whole time.
