    We're good again!
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Well, with all the bullpen concerns.....this was certainly a stud performance by Simon to keep the rest of the pen rested, and finish very solid, especially the last two innings.

    Bravo.

What a great effort from Simon. I'd love to see more relievers given the chance to do this.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I once saw and barely recall... Sparky put in Pedro Borbon in a 14-6 blowout in 1972 and have him go 3 innings for the save...when it was still 14-4 ..against the Phillies. This a day after Pedro went 1 1/3. He was the closer and i think that meant everything got closed by him. I just have that In my head when I think of how closers or relievers in general were used in such a wacky way up until the late 80's.

You're making the assumption other relievers can do this.

Shades of Clay Carroll. The Hawk could bring the game home.

There's one right now named Cingrani who could do it.

That's fair enough. I thought Baker's discussion about where you draw the line with Cingrani was reasonable. If you pitch him in relief now you may sacrifice the future.

I'm not a "long run " kind of guy and this team is built to win now so I keep Cingrani in the bull pen. Just be careful and don't pull a Scott williamson on him.

How would pitching him half the year out of the pen do that?

Baker likes to make points when he does not like something....then contradicts the point with another player over the same situation. I realize he is the Anti Earl Weaver but Lasorda also pitched Orel and Pedro and Alejandro Pena...out of the bullpen, then had them start when they were ready

I didn't say Baker doesn't contradict himself, most folks do occassionaly. Nor are there not exceptions to the rule. But letting Cingrani mature in triple A is probably better for his long term future than pitching in relief this year for the Reds. On the other hand, that might be outweighed by the team's short term needs.

If they can get another LH to replace Parra, I am all for it. Even when Marshall comes back...another LH is needed.
