I can see both sides as long as Cingrani is viewed as a short term emergency option. If there's anything we've learned from another long debated subject though, it's that absolutely nothing in the world is sacred in this organization. Put me in the concerned camp.
We'll see how the Reds use Cingrani, if they keep him up in the bigs.
They'll probably have to straddle the fence here, use him in relief, but maybe longer stints which don't impair his ability to start.
It's a tough situation because the Reds could have needs in both the rotation and the pen as the year procedes. But at least they have a good pitcher like Tony C to help fill the void, which should be short lived because Broxton and Marshall are due back reasonably soon and because Cueto seems healthy for now.

Everybody wants a good bullpen, but nobody wants to admit that to have one it requires good pitchers. I'd love for Cingrani to develop, but its a luxury. The pen is short. There is only one arm out there that is better than Cingrani at this point. Hoover, Lecure and lately Simon have been good, but this pen needs all the help it can get. Cingrani is really all they have to turn to. IMO, for this pen to keep from being a total disaster until Marshall, Broxton and at least one acquisition join it at full effectiveness, Cingrani in the pen is a necessity. Necessities trump luxuries. Development can come later and if the rotation needs an arm, Cingrani can be moved back in rather easily. I've seen it happen oodles of times. It's not as hard as people are making it.

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Reds need a lefty in the pen badly...Imean one that misses bats and can dominate. Cingrani is the only guy who fits both the need andthe profile. He can still return to starting once the pen is healthy and hopefully Walt finds another solid reliever. Other pitchers have started out in the bullpen...and Chapman is a case of his own if that's the worry. Aroldis, it seems really prefers the bullpen. I don't see a parallel there at all. Cingrani fills a big hole and it doesn't endanger his future as a starter. If an emergency start is needed I guess they'll have to give Reynolds a spot on the 40 man. The bullpen need is immediate and huge. The Reds cannot keep stumbling into 8th inning horror shows.

No, David Price is a poor comparison because Price was used as a reliever in 2008 starting in mid-September. It was well understood that would be his role for the rest of the year. With Cingrani, if you move him to the pen for 3 weeks, what then? He would not be able to transition back to starting just like that. He'd have to change up his routine again and get stretched back out. I don't like the schizo nature of how it sets up for him. It's a great comparison. Probably the best ever.
This is all a matter of opinion. Will be interesting to see what the Reds decide.
What then? Well, that's exactly what the Reds did last year with Cingrani down the stretch. Nothing is different. The long-term plan is still for him to be a starter. This happens all the time with young starting pitchers in MLB. They might have to earn their stripes as relievers for a year or two before joining the rotation for good. This is nothing new.
Also: Cingrani is one of the best pitchers on the team. He needs to be ... on the team.
We're not in the stretch right now. It's mid-June. And take a look at how often Cingrani threw as a reliever for the Reds last year. It wasn't often. The way Baker might use him now would likely be far different. What then? Well, that's exactly what the Reds did last year with Cingrani down the stretch. Nothing is different.
Jerk around the kid you'll be counting on to replace Arroyo in the rotation next year? Sign me up.

Can Cingrani close? Then they could move Chapman to the rotation when Marshall returns and all will be perfect! (Only half joking)
