St. Louis stretches its lead to 5-2. Pirates are still being blanked 1-0.
Pirates are hitless through four. Lohse worked into the second inning. After the delay Tyler Thornburg came on.

Pirates win their ninth straight. Reds 5.5 games back.
Hope Walt's nap is going well.

there's nothing like bowling a 300 game! 13 now and retired.
Ricky henderson has a higher OBP than C. patterson and he's retired. C. Trent 6-14-2008
Can't see the Bucs keeping this up, but they're a good team. They'll hang around for the long-haul IMO.
Hard to believe it's 5.5. Just like that.
Rounding third and heading for home...
The Reds have the sixth best record in baseball despite the recent slump. They still have a run differential that is even with the team with the best record (the Pirates), although the Cards' is significantly better.
Regardless, some would say that Reds aren't napping, but rather there isn't a reason to panic and make a move that is extremely shortsighted.
I'm sure if there were a good deal to make, the Reds would make it right now. But there's no reason to rush. That's not to say the Reds don't have some things that need addressing, but it's not so dire they have to make a bad deal just to address them.

These are all good points but the Reds aren't in first place at the beginning of July, clearly Walt Jocketty is an idiot who is twiddling his thumbs and the Pirates and their 20 consecutive losing seasons are geniuses compared the simpletons who got the Reds 2 division crowns in the last 3 years.

This past week, Cardinal starting pitchers not named Wainwright have a combined 8.43 ERA. talk about regression

The Pirates are peaking way too early
Is it "next season" yet?
I will give Pittsburgh this, they are padding out their win total enough so that even when regression inevitably hits (and it will, not that they'll necessarily finish below .500 but they are not going to keep up this pace, just as we saw with our Reds last year and their winning streak) they may still make the playoffs.
