Sure, it's not very scientific, but it makes the leagues fun.

Not sure I'd want to play in a league that eliminated all the counting stats. It's not too hard to predict the top OBP guys every year. It is kind of difficult to predict the RBI and win leaders.. I like the randomness of it. Makes it kind of fun to root for your guy to get the win even if he's had a mediore outing (which will punish you in other catagories).

You have to be smart enough to evaluate the players on the team around him to estimate opportunities (which really doesn't require being all that smart).

It's a team sport. I get the attempts to isolate individual production, but sometimes it loses sight of the forest for the trees IMO.

We don't eliminate all counting stats, we just complement them with stuff like OPS and FIP. I guess my point is that a productive individual player is a productive individual player. Sure, you can strategize in fantasy by picking up free agents who seem to have a good supporting cast, but I would rather go for the more conservative investment -- the guy who gets himself on base, hits the ball hard consistently. The rest of the stats usually take care of themselves on my team.
