Also the Giants were 44-19 against the teams in their division (the teams they knew best and the teams that knew them the best).....that's impressive

But that's not the premise. The premise was that since the Reds aren't beating the plus .500 teams they will not do well in the playoffs.

Doesn't happen very often but a valid point for sure.

Yes of course....but nearly 1/2 way home, not great playoff experiences of late and .389 winning % against the type of teams you face in the playoffs.....maybe more of a continuing trend I guess.

The only team under .500 that the Cardinals have a losing record against is Miami (1-2). I wouldn't exactly say that's a bad record against teams under .500.

Last year has nothing to do with this year. 2010 has nothing to do with this year. Different players. Even the same players are now different players than they were then. Heck, the regular season has very little to do with what happens in the playoffs. When was the last time the team with the best record in baseball won the world series? It wasn't last year. It wasn't 2011. It wasn't 2010. It was way back in 2009. Didn't happen in 2008. Happened in 2007, though the Indians tied for the best record in baseball and they didn't win. In 2006 the team with the 13th best record in baseball won the whole thing. Didn't happen in 2005. Didn't happen in 2004. Didn't happen in 2003. Didn't happen in 2002. Didn't happen in 2001. Didn't happen in 2000. Didn't happen in 1999.

Since 1999 the team with the best record in baseball has won the World Series twice. Get there. Get hot.

I get your point but see part of that as being post season constructed teams vs regular season constructed teams. There is some pure randomness and luck in the post season. Best records are also influenced by quality of division opponents, so best regular season record is not always the same as best regular season.

One of the Red's most valuable chips to the regular season, doesn't even matter in the playoffs, and that is 5 or 6 solid starters.

After you make the playoffs, it's pretty much a crap shoot.

You need to look no farther that who advances in the playoffs to know that.

Where all playoffs team basically win between 60-55% of their games, all teams are pretty much equal.

Something should've though. Where's Tonya Harding and her lead pipe when you need it. Sheesh!

When did this turn into the team with the best record? I understand the get hot at the right time. Now if those years the WS winner wasn't a team with a good record vs .500+ teams that would be a better fit

It turned into a "records don't matter once you get to the playoffs".

What is Dustyball? I thought you had to play baseball to win the World Series?

Doesn't it seem like some Reds fans are so used to complaining about this team that, no matter what the team is doing, something has to be wrong? Second best record in baseball and we are really concerned about this?

    Jeez. Enjoy it people.
