Just want to say I'm happy Mes is taking advantage of the opportunity he's finally getting.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I just want to say that I'm glad he's finally getting an opportunity to take advantage of.

We need to kill this thread and start a new one- the coming out party of Devin Mesoraco.

I can see his confidence grow by the day.
    sorry we're boring

Maybe Dusty should stop and think that maybe he is playing with confidence since he doesn't have to worry about if he will play again tomorrow.

I wonder if Devin/this thread is becoming the new Jay Bruce/pick a Jay Bruce thread, where it is bumped by someone in the camp on the side of however Devin is performing at that very moment in time.

Better than starting a new thread, IMO.

Given Mesoraco's recent showing at the plate (and behind it), and the team's generally poor offensive results from the RH side of the plate, he is emerging as a potentially key player whose role is worth debating. It's not just a pro-Mes vs anti-Mes seesaw. His performance, as it evolves, should lead to evolving points of view...

What evidence do we have that he is "emerging"? That he has a couple of good games in overall offensive routs? On Sunday his OpS stood at .671. In the month of July on Sunday his OPS stood at .695 with a .360 babip. In the 30 days prior to Sunday he had a .598 OPS. In the time that Hanigan got hurt to Sunday, when Devin theoretically knew he wouldn't need to worry about not playing tomorrow, his OPS was .598.

Two games is a start, not an emergence. He appears to have the talent. But let's not get hysterical because of his pedigree or because this is what the Reds could really use or this is totally what we want on a personal level.

I agree, we should remain negative about a catcher with the potential to be a top 8 catcher in MLB when he starts playing well... Especially when the other choices have been horrible all season.

I'm hysterically happy to see any Reds catcher hit the ball with authority and approach the plate with confidence. It's been a while.

Not negative, grounded. IMO, insinuations that prior struggles are related to a perceived lack of opportunity are pretty aggressive, especially when we are talking about a two game sample.

I'm so hysterical, I am having trouble forming a coherent thought.

    "Yay! Mes! Go Mes!"

That's about all I'm good for these days.

Prior struggles -- or lack of emergence -- could very likely be due to lack of opportunity. As the OP suggests.

I do agree that 2 games is a bit premature for hysteria.

    Mes! Go Mes! Yaaaaaaaah!

    It's not 2 games:

In the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Giants, Mesoraco went 3-for-4 with two singles and a three-run homer in a victory. It was his second straight three-hit contest and second straight night with a longball. Over the last 15 games, Mesoraco is sporting a .308 batting mark with three dingers.
