Tany, Tanney, Tony Perez first coverage in Geneva 1960

For all Reds fans and my fellow Doggie (and Pete) geeks, here is a link to every Geneva Times page from April-June 1960 -- and possibly the first-ever mentions of the 17-year-old Tanny, then Tanny, then Tany, then Tony Perez. It took a few days for the paper to decide what to call him, although before coming to the U.S. he was known as (phonetically) "TAH-nee."
PDF #440 (lower right) shows a picture of him and states that the 17-year-old second baseman can hit but needs work on fielding -- and that he enjoys movies, basketball, and dancing! Also you'll see future Red Art Shamsky.
PDF #466 shows his first pro hit (a triple).
Maybe the most interesting is PDF #1,234. The article details the historic day that Tony Perez was put on the disabled list, and he would be replaced in the lineup that night by newly-signed youngster, Pete Rose. Here's the one link to them all: http://fultonhistory.com/my%20photo%...le/index2.html
