He's misplaying a lot of plays. He seems to never know where BP is positioned and has went way too far to his right and 2 inn later in the same game didn't budge from his position when it only took a step or two....muffed balls in the air multiple times of late....didn't go get the ball the catcher had to get. Has thrown ball away.
He is excellent at scooping the ball but hasn't done much of that either.
I agree he's going to be fine....but he has been playing poorly at first the past few weeks.
I know Steve Sax had the same issue previously, but wasn't it Chuck Knoblauch who took the 'suddenly crooked arm syndrome' to a whole different level?
Congratulations once again to Jay Bruce, who has tied BRM legends Joe Morgan and Pete Rose along with teammate Brandon Phillips for 13th place on the Reds' all-time home run list.

No. Ignoring an inability to win big games against good teams is missing the big picture.
I couldn't care less at this point if the Reds win 94 games and win a wild card.
The team blew their playoffs v the Giants last season. They beat up on the Astros and Cubs last year. They have a bad record against good teams this year.
They probably need a couple more battle tested players.
Right now they have the look of a good regular season team but nothing more.
This may be good enough for some fans. I had hoped for more.

I think Votto would do well with an occasional day off. He is so intense that it may drain on him. I thought he needed a day off a while back when he had that one horrible defensive game (Cubs?)
What do the Astros and Cubs have to do with not closing out the series with the Giants? There's no bonus points for record against good teams, everything is reset in the playoffs. The Reds were better than the Giants in the first two games, the Giants were better in the last two, and the Reds inability in Game 3 to get another run of off Ryan Vogelsong or the Giants bullpen still haunts me. And the Astros and Cubs have nothing to do with that.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

If the error to start the inning was the reason why Chapman lost it today, then he has no business being a closer. I'm not saying that was the reason, but if it was, he needs to be taken out of the closer role immediately.

I think it's pretty obvious. Ask yourself how meaningful it was for the Reds to have won 97 games in a division with the Astros/Cubs playing them 36 times or so.
Then ask yourself whether that regular season victory level was reflected in their playoff performance against a much better team.
Pretty obvious.
