At this point I am OK with the Reds standing pat. This is just not the year, shame we traded away a young SS for a one year rental, kind of puts the whole trade deadline fever I have been having in perspective. My post about Billy Hamilton for Hunter Pence was ridiculous.

There are very few moves this team can make right now that are going to demonstrably change things going forward.

I'm on the fence and glad I'm not sitting there today, making the big bucks and having to decide whether to be buyers or sellers.

But honestly, I would be happy with either direction for this team. I'd love to see, for instance, Bailey or Arroyo to Boston for Xander Bogota and a low-A pitcher. But I also wouldn't mind seeing a couple second tier prospects go for some bullpen and/or catching help or someone who can get on base in the #2 hole.

    Just don't sit still, Walt.

Which is why this is frustrating, the Reds finally had an opportunity to gain some ground on the Cardinals and Pirates who both played poorly over the weekend and failed miserably.

I don't see any viable options that are worth losing the very few legit prospects the Reds have.

I trust Walt for once when he says zero trades are brewing.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

Peavy not expected to start tonight, per MLBTR.

They missed the boat last year with Hanley. I was hoping they traded for him last year.

Hanley isn't really a shortstop (I wouldn't complain having his bat in the order though, obviously).

Dodgers had the money to burn and bought low on an underperforming Ramirez, I tip my cap but it's not a move I think would have worked out for the Reds.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread

I have to point out that right now Homer Bailey has about as much trade value as he's ever going to have. He's under team control for another 1.5 years, which means that a team that trades for him, if they make him a qualifying offer and lose him, will net an additional draft pick in 2015. Most of the pitchers on the market now are free agents to be.

Not really new news, but within the last hour Jon Heyman said the Reds are still intersted but not close in Hunter Pence.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread

    Makes sense.

And I'm sure they are closer than the Giants are letting on. They may as well get something for Pence now, as he will likely accept a qualifying offer next year and then they will have to pay him $14MM.

Travieso and Heisey would be a good haul for the Giants.
