Every Reds first round pick since Homer is on a Major League roster.*

    *Grandal is on the DL

EDIT: Obviously not all of them. The last 3 aren't yet, but every one from 2004-2010 is.

comparing Miggy to Erik Bedard is ridiculous, but yes, I do understand why this would be a huge risk.

Simple it would be the worst ever because unless the Tigers get Cozart and Corky for Miggy then the Tigers are getting flat robbed!

Could you have missed the point more?

Really, what we are comparing is the difference between Votto and Cabrera to in this example, Erik Bedard (whom at the time was an elite pitcher).

You're acting as if 2011 MVP, Joey Votto, is some kind of serious downgrade. I would take Votto and say, Latos over Cabrera a million times over.

Forget about garbage stats like WAR, and just consider the sheer number of trading possibilities you're scuttling by throwing such an enormous % of the Reds' topflight MLB and minor league talent at one position player, no matter how good.

This trade is not any more ridiculous as the Tigers trading Miggy for Stephenson straight up.

I didn't miss your point, I was simply saying an elite pitcher in the league does not compare to a top 5 hitter all time.

    But that wasn't the comparison.

You aren't proposing the Reds trade purely prospects for Cabrera.

You are proposing the Reds trade their best player in addition to numerous top end propsects for Cabrera.

The posters here weren't proposing the Reds trade any established talent for Bedard.

Not sure a list of 10 relievers proves anything.
Marshall is certainly not proven to be finished at this point.
Feliz was put back into the rotation. I don't know if that caused the injury or not.

Anyhow, a list of 10 relievers from 2010 that ended up injuried does not prove that Chapman is probably going to be injured within 4-5 years because he's a "hard throwing reliever". (I forget the author's orginal claim)

The Reds have been extremely cautious with Chapman's usage. Maybe that won't make a difference.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

I do not think it is a huge downgrade or anything, but I do not think there is any question Miguel is easily better than Votto.

Believe it or not, I think the time is right to back up the truck and go in for a big trade (competitive windows outside of BRM era in Cincy are achingly small), just not that trade (which would never happen regardless, I realize).

The Reds absolutely need a big bat that forces the opposing manager to make tough decisions. Tinkering at the margins or getting a bench bat won't win the pennant.

This may be the mother load of all wild trade "proposals" on RZ. It was trade proposals like that on the old St. Louis Post Dispatch Cards forum that gave rise to my moniker.

I am not proposing the Reds do anything, it was just in response to the post about "not trading Stephenson for anybody...maybe Cabrera."

I am not clamoring for the Reds to get rid of Votto or anything.

I don't necessarily agree. The Reds are still reasonably well positioned for the next 3-5 years. I don't think if the Reds fail this year that they can't continue to retool with the prospects they have to put out a competitive team.

If they make a big splash, I think it's more along the ways of allocating the young talent to positions of need long term. Ie. If they trade a collection of young talent to the Rangers to get Profar, that makes sense perhaps now and later. Doing it to get a big bat for LF now probably isn't a reasonable thing the Reds are considering especially if they are under the belief that the Ludiwck contract isn't sunk.
