Likely facing Adam Wainwright, or any of Pittsburgh's starting pitching who believe are into witchcraft. Need a bat, today.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

I know the tradionalists and all keep disputing it, but the one game wild card play-in IS a part of the postseason/playoffs.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Losing the one game play-in game doesn't qualify as reaching the playoffs in my book. It's a huge failure of a season if that's the result for this team.

Regardless of what you think, the 1 game playoff is the playoffs!!!

I am sorry. I misinterpreted your earlier post. I thought you were making the statement that Jocketty will stand pat "as usual." The article should be taken with the proviso that it was in the context of him having made the Broxton deal- so he hadn't stood pat. As I have posted many times before, a deal can only be made if the other side is also willing to deal. Jocketty has made moves in the past, hopefully he can come up with something today but I doubt a significant upgrade is out there. Maybe a bench move.

I don't think the Braves and Rangers were happy that they made the playoffs last year.

Your book doesn't count as official Major League Baseball history, though. MLB says that the one game is indeed the opening round of the playoffs. That's how it will be recognized in future years.

Again....you can squint at Brian Wilson and say it could be an upgrade. There's risk there.

I could be convinced that Alberto Callaspo is an upgrade over Jack Hannahan.

Lots of hate expressed on the board at the reds bench and I don't feel it's that terrible, but if you look around the edges of the roster there is certainly room for improvement. They are not going to get Barry Larkin for nothing, but there is certainly room for improvement.
How would Jake Peavy really have helped? The Reds, at this point, are almost certainly going to make the playoffs and almost certainly not going to win the division. Therefore, we should only care about bringing aboard a player that can positively affect those playoff games. I just don't see anyone out there fitting that bill (leaving aside how little any one particular player affects any one particular baseball game).

I'm sure the Cardinals were. In prior years, they wouldn't have made the cut. Last year, they made it to the NLCS.

Probably not, but we are in a much different position than those teams who both won 90+ games.

If you guys want to celebrate losing the one game play-in and "reaching the playoffs" that's fine. Me, I consider that a disappointing season. I don't consider that reaching the playoffs. I didn't in 1999 and won't now.

I find it depressing that fans here keep "shooting for" the final wild card spot. Like it's a certifiable fact that we won't win the division. Sad.
