Utley has never played 3B in the Majors....

He did play for one season in the minors (123 games)...

It would make more sense to just acquire Utley and move Phillips to SS.

    Neither will happen.

I would never move Phillips from 2B. Yes he would probably make his spectacular plays regardless, but could you imagine him trying to do one of his crazy throws from SS?

Utley at 3B allows us to move Frazier to LF. Then he can move to 3B on Utley's off days and we can throw Heisey/Paul in LF.
    2015 Attendance 2-1 (4/6, 4/7,4/24)
    2014 Attendance 1-3 (3/31, 4/12, 8/14)
    2013 Attendance: 6-0 (4/3, 4/16, 4/17, 8/3, 8/21, 9/7)

If Frazier is in the lineup it should be at 3rd base where his defense has been spectacular.

Frazier in LF is a below average player at best.

I'm pretty sure reds44's point is that there's no sense in even discussing, Utley won't play third just like the Reds won't move BP, so he's not coming to Cincinnati.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Frazier played in LF last year and if I recall he made a few good plays there. I wouldn't call his defense at 3B this year spectacular. I can recall a few times when balls have gone right through his legs, though he hasn't made any errant throws like Zimmerman from the Nats usually does.

Offensively, I think the move makes sense. Not to mention, our LF defense is not the best to begin with.

Frazier has a surprisingly good UZR rating at third. His defense has been fine.

If the Reds could get Utley, I'd move things around defensively. Maybe Utley could even play LF, I wouldn't doubt it.

From what I've read, it's likely Utley winds up in LA.

    He's made 4 errors all year, has a +8.1 UZR and +18.9 UZR/150.

    His defense has been great.

Like I said from the beginning, I knew it would be a long shot anyways.

David Wright and Parnell for Cingrani and Stephenson or Hamilton (their pick--they can have em both if they kick in some payroll relief).

I liked the idea of trying to aquire Aoki and KRod that was mentioned a few weeks ago. Adds great depth to BP and closer role and we find a starting LF who frequently puts the ball in play and rarely SO.

The utley and Rollins are kinda cool till you realize the Phils are very much in the wild card hunt.
