Yep, west of the old school rail lines, Cincinnati, Chicago and St Louis were visits west once too.

So all the games in GABP are now West Coast Trips. No wonder they can't ever win a home playoff game.

In the old 2 division NL, Cincinnati was west and St. Louis and Chicago was east. Never figured that one out.

That never did make sense. Same with the Bengals starting out in the old AFL West?

I believe this one was not so much geographical as balance and maintaining some rivalries.

New teams have to be added somewhere without doing an overhaul to the divisions would be my guess.

Right, IIRC the Braves were originally slated to be in the east as were the Cubs, but the Cards were in the west. At the time Gussie Busch had a loud voice in the ownership group and he whined loud about the Cubs and Cards being split up, so the deal was cut to swap the Braves (a relatively new ownership) and Cardinals

This thread has clearly not worked in firing up the reds.

Also Phil Wrigley wasn't too happy about a lot of intra-divisional games (televised) that started at 9:00 p.m.
