I only wish that he would come back for a day so that the fans could say goodbye during pregame ceremonies. Closure would have been nice.

And our starter isn't anything to write (or even email) home about.
Scott Rolen hasn't been good for years. He isn't getting younger and has a history of back and shoulder problems. I am pretty darn confident that he would suck.

Todd is having a good year. His WAR was 32th or so in the majors earlier this week, seems high, but he has produced.

Sign Rolen to a minor league deal now with every intention of bringing him up in due time (assuming he can stay healthy and hit).

Could it hurt? How does salary work in a situation like that?

    Just thinking out loud...

It's not the record that worries me. It's the inconsistency, and at times the lackadaisical approach, whether it be defensively, hitting w/RISP or whatever. They just seem indifferent at times. You don't agree?

    Nope.

    Let's get Scott Rolen!

He would never agree to a minor league deal.

And yeah, it could hurt if he comes up and becomes the starter. There is a reason the Reds didn't bring him back. They didn't think he was good enough to start.

The fact of the matter is the pitch was close enough that it was called strike three. Protect the plate is preached very early on in the game. Votto fouls of many a pitch that are borderline....because it's too close to take.

This must be the game thread where we talk/discuss history.

Pat Duncan was from my hometown.
