I think any GM would, if they had suspicions, play that into their decision. There is going to be a cost/benefit analysis done on a player and maybe they won't go 7/140 for the guy but maybe they think 6/90 is worth it b/c of the perceived risks. Or maybe they won't touch the guy period.

ARod's contract alone will scare tons of GMs just by mentioning it in conversation.

Again, it depends on where those suspicions come from IMO. Or rather, whether the GM deems his suspicions legitimate. Given that almost every player is a potential user, and that there is no reliable connection between physique and substance abuse per se, I suppose each individual probably has a litmus test of some sort, based on different types of evidence that is available at the time. I would doubt that many GMs just look at stats though.

A-Rod's contract was problematic for all kinds of reasons not necessarily limited to potential PED use. But yeah, it will certainly be a negative standard moving forward on this topic.

I consider it an accident stroke of genius symbolic of the Chris Davis thread lol

Tim Kirkjian just had an excellent interview segment with Davis on Baseball Tonight. Including this:

People will say, anyone who makes this kind of jump has to have some sort of PED connection. What is your answer to that?

Props to RZ for being way out in front on this inevitable question.

The question may be inevitable, but the argumentation doesn't have to be poor. Too many times, the inevitability of the question just means banging our heads against the same black boxes.

Davis is 8-39 since the All-Star Break with no homers and 20 K.

    So... yeah.

It's the HR Derby, it messes with guy's swings...

Yep. I'm perfectly fine without any Reds ever playing in it.

HR Derby affecting guys' swing is an urban legend. It's glorified BP for most players. Baseball coaches used to say the same thing (religiously) about weight training.

And of course Chris Davis hit a 2-run homer just a bit ago.
