    Chris Davis

Guy just hit his 31st HR.

Is it legit? Will suspicions arise?

Guy has always had power and just hit his peak age, I don't see the problem.

    SLG over 700 though, wow.

Davis has always had explosive power. He hit 33 HR last year and had another season of 21, so popping off 40-50 in a freakish career year doesn't seem impossible.

Agreed. He's always had tremendous power, so that's not all that shocking (though is .391 ISO is just absurd).

The batting average is what is surprising to me. That said, it's mostly fueled by a .380 BABIP and he's not walking a ton, either.

Agree on the average too, Jose Bautista had his career year with a mid 300s average recently, and then tailed off to his career norms while keeping the power. Seems how a lot of these players who absolutely go nuts for a year like this end up shaking out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Davis drops down to a 270ish hitter again after this season but remains a ~40 HR guy in the process.

Time for an Orioles fan to get pissy and storm off!

He has a .508 career slugging, so while this is obviously a big jump I don't think it's anything THAT out of the ordinary.

It seems like the media's finally beyond accusing every power hitter that isn't fully developed at 24. Haven't heard anything yet.

I love his swing, doesn't appear as if he swings very hard but the ball just flies.

Career mediocre player who is on a pace to hit 62 bombs and 50 plus doubles. Definite suspicion

He's always had power, and now is getting a chance to play everyday, so I doubt it's anything unnatural.

    However...

I think everyone did think for a second that it might not be natural, which just goes to show that in this day and age, any big increase in power creates some suspicion.

If he didn't look like a defensive end for the Ravens, I may not have wondered.

Sooner or later the common fan will learn what the statistics have shown for years now: the effects of steroids were dramatically overblown. Actually it will probably take decades for most fans to figure that out, mainly because they don't want to believe it. The whole "steroids were the reason" myth is so deeply ingrained in the public consciousness that it is a waste of time to even attempt to explain why it is wrong. People emotionally freak out when their sacred paradigm is challenged, even when it rather easily disproved.
