Shane Robinson with a 0.7 WAR in 76 plate appearances kind of sums up the production StL gets from their random players. crazy.

Corcino this year is 4-10 with a 6.57 ERA, striking out 6 per nine innings and walking almost 5 at AAA.

There may be mitigating factors, maybe he was rushed, but I think the Brewers will look to acquire somebody performing above sea level this year.

Again, they always have the option of keeping Aoki. They also have the option of talking to the other 28 teams in baseball who also have minor league players.
I get your main point Kc61, the Brewers aren't going to give Aoki away, but on the flip side, Corcino is a pretty good return for a corner OF with no power with only 1.5 years left on his contract. He's had a bad AAA season, but he's still a potential major leaguer. I guess if I was a rebuilding team, I'd rather have Corcino than the 2 minor leaguers we traded for Broxton.

I guess I don't see Aoki as being that hot of a commodity.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

I thought Aoki was under team control until 2017.

I thought it was said earlier in this thread that he was a FA after 2014.

    I believe signed thru 2014, then arb-eligible.

Read the original post, ya bum.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

That's what I get for jumping in a thread halfway in. Is there a loophole whereby international guys aren't/don't have to be under team control for 6 years?

I would agree with you if Aoki were a free agent this coming year. He's not. He is a starting player who is signed for 1.5 years -- and cheap. There's the value. And while he has no power, he is a starting lead off hitter with a lifetime .358 OBP who doesn't strike out.

Corcino is having a terrible year, not just ERA-wise but six Ks and five BBs at AAA isn't going to excite anybody -- regardless of previous rankings. Now, if Milwaukee is particularly in love with Corcino, followed him for years, really focused on him, then maybe.

The Reds getting Aoki seems like a non-starter to me for a number of reasons, but I think they would have a hard time reaching an agreement on value. I think the Brewers will want a prospect on the cusp, not a project.

I'm curious about that too. Maybe it's something negotiated in his contract. International players might have the ability to negotiate stuff like that. It might explain why the orginal salary was so low.

My logic would be.....would the Reds give up Corcino or Cingrani for a guy that isn't starting next year?

Ok, I didn't get that because Ludwick is injured and not contributing now. I would agree that A prospects are overpaying, but I would disagree that he is not a good target looking ahead to next year. Ludwick is now officially a new creature, one with a ripped up shoulder with the primary tool of power. Acquiring help for today and beyond for LF is not a bad idea at this point...............as always, at the right price.

I can agree with that. I just think anything other than some B prospects is crazy. I can't believe the Reds aren't going to go to bat with Ludwick next year with his salary increase.
