    Lasik Surgery

I was watching MLB Network last night and they mentioned that Dan Uggla is out becuase he is going to get Lasik surgery.

    He is batting .186 with 146 K's.

The way that Todd Frazier is swinging the bat, you might think it is time for him to try the surgery too. I am sorry, but that swing against the pitch that was a foot outside and in the dirt was unbelievable.

    Thoughts?

Does Todd even have a vision problem? Or just a "mechanically-unsound-swing" problem?

My first thought would be, that before giving Frazier eye surgery I would determine whether he actually has a vision problem. Having unnecessary surgery is normally not prudent.

You can't go giving eye surgery to everyone who makes really bad swings. Otherwise you're going to have give surgery to Phillips, Bruce, and Mesoraco while you're at it. And being in a division chase, I don't think it makes sense to give surgery to half the starting line-up.

Frazier has had a huge hitch in his swing since he was drafted. He takes so long to load his swing, I get the feeling that he is up there guessing more than the average guy because he needs to start his swing so early. He's a talented enough guy to produce at the major league level, but with his particular style I think he is going to look pretty stupid up there. My point being, this isn't a new thing for Frazier, and I doubt a vision problem is the motivation for his terrible swings.

If his visual acuity (which can be tested easily) is normal, then Todd's problem is most likely that he can't recognize pitches, not that he can't see them.

If his vision is abnormal, then glasses or corrective vision surgery is the answer

Is there any evidence Frazier has vision problems? Maybe he should get a vasectomy too.

I'm sure as part of their normal physicals they have their eyes checked every year. I doubt Frazier needs any vision correction. Just a hitting approach correction.

Frazier needs a blood transfusion from Joey Votto.

Tiger Woods had lasik done to get his vision to 20/15. If I was a millionaire baseball player, I'd consider paying a few grand to get better-than-human vision.

    Re: Lasik Surgery

Maybe we should just skip the exam and diagnosis steps and have the whole team undergo LASIK? I'm sure there's at least one opthalmologic surgeon without a license that would do it.

All Reds draftees should undergo mandatory surgery the day after they are signed: Tommy John for pitchers, LASIK for position players.

In theory this makes perfect sense. In practical terms, I don't think Frazier could survive an injection of Votto blood. Charlie Sheen on the other hand...

Yeah but then you run the risk of going blind and having to look like this

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Not to threadjack, but I have a question:

Setting aside the legalities, what's the moral difference between a player that gets the Lasik medical treatment to improve his performance and a player who uses PEDs to improve his?
