    ESPN Clown

May have missed something, but what ESPN head took Marty to task about Puig going to the all-star game. Marty said today it was some clown from ESPN who has a show that nobody watches anyway. I'm guessing maybe Cowherd?

Needs a new thread title and some direction IMO. But yeah, probably Cowherd.

Marty and Colin Cowherd have been in a peeing contest over the Puig AllStar thing. More Drama from the announce team.

Do the Reds have Spanish language broadcasts? I might prefer that.

To be fair, we don't know it was him. My bad for perpetuating that piece of non-info. OP needs to fatten up his content a bit in the future...

    "Nobody watches..." Hmmm.

I'll bet more people watch Colin Cowherd's national show on the fairly obscure ESPN U network than listen to Marty's "Brennaman and Jones on Baseball" segments on WLW.

And I'll bet that at least 10x more people listen to Colin Cowherd's radio show on a hundred or so radio affiliates across the country than listen to the average Reds game.

Marty should think through his digs when he takes swipes at the national media.

And I bet Marty is 100x better in his field than Cowherd is in his.

I'd take that bet. I think Cowherd is arguably the best sports talk radio host out there today. Doesn't mean I always agree with him (I don't). And doesn't mean I don't often find him patronizing (I do). But he is knowledgeable, well prepared, and he is usually thought provoking. And unlike a guy like Skip Bayless, Cowherd is able to generate discussion and debate without going so over the top that it becomes obvious he doesn't believe what he's saying.

I think Cowherd was spot on this week in his assessment of the baseball establishment and of Marty in particular.

You may have been able to sell me more on Colin being prepared before I heard him last week saying that most baseball players don't go to college. He pointed out that 3% of players have a college degree. While that is true, that doesn't mean only 3% went to college. How many NBA players or NFL players have college degrees? Guys get drafted before they are eligible to graduate in all three sports. On the Reds alone, these guys went to college: Ryan Hanigan, Zack Cozart, Todd Frazier, Chris Heisey, Jack Hannahan, Ryan Ludwick, Tony Cingrani, Manny Parra, Pedro Villarreal, Curtis Partch, JJ Hoover, Sam LeCure, Sean Marshall, Justin Freeman and Logan Ondrusek.

Cowherd is also the guy that was bashing Votto a few years ago and saying he didn't deserve the all-star bid because no one knew who he was.

    Re: ESPN Clown

I used to be one on Marty's side on a lot of stuff. I used to think that Marty's detractors were over reacting in their criticism of him. But over the last couple years I've found whenever I listen to Marty he goes off on something so ridiculous that I have to stop listening. I watch most games after they're over. Most games I could listen to in real time but I usually don't and if I'm honest it's because of Marty. And that's sad because I grew up listening to him.

I think SVP and Rusillo are ESPN Radio's best, but I'd put Cowherd second. The "clown" in this debate is Marty. He's been going downhill for years now, unfortunately.
