    Bullpen Help--The Thread

Even after Marshall comes back I think the Reds are probably one arm away in the bullpen.

One interesting name who has had a very good year is Jesse Crain:

    Any interest in Crain?

What would you be willing to give? Corcino? Yorman? Sharky?

If not Crain any other ideas?

I would take a look at Cishek out of Miami as well. Would give a different look than other reds arms.

I hope whatever the solution that it isn't expensive in terms of talent or cash.

Glen Perkins is having an excellent year in Minnesota. I believe he is 31 years old. He is also left handed.

Here's a list MLBtraderumor put together a month ago: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/0...andidates.html

From that list I think James Russell would be a great fit for this bullpen, but I think the Cubs would ask for the moon.

Guys that I like if available are Brandon Lyon and Matt Guerrier both are free agents at the end of the year and would fill the RH role in the 6-7 innings, and they shouldn't cost us top prospects.

You get what you pay for.

It seems many here believe that all good pitchers should start all the time, if no room in the rotation start them in the minors, don't trade talent for relievers, don't pay cash for relievers.

Bullpens are very important, more so than many here seem to believe IMO.

Why so many injuries to the bullpen?

Masset, Marshall, Broxton.................bad luck or the way they're used?

    Masset could be excluded.

    Bad luck Marshall.

I think Broxton being outta shape will mess with his mechanics.

We've just seen the disaster that can happen when you overpay for a reliever (Broxton). I mind trading talent less -- as long as its not a massive overpay (The Trade). The Wood-Marshall deal, for example, I have learned to get behind with more time to see the stabilizing effect that Sean has at the end of ballgames. Marshall really is one of the better RP in baseball, and the team has really felt his absence of late.

Mike Dunn is still on my short list. Nice live arm, wouldn't have to be a LOOGY, but should be in a tight game. However, a lefty isn't quite as big a necessity if Cingrani is out there until Marshall returns.

A power righty is desparately needed.

I'd like Dunn as well. Also like to see what it would take to land Tom Wilhelmsen.

Just picked him up in my strat league

I'd take this line for the Reds

    Code:
NAME ERA W L PCT G GS CG SH SV IP H R ER HR BB SO
    J.Crain 0.57 0 0 ---- 8 0 0 0 0 15.2 5 1 1 0 8 19
