Fix the bench and the Cozart problem is fixed. Izturis and Hanahan need to be dumped. Walt's got some work to do and Dusty needs to butt out of the discussion.
Walt was on the game when Bailey pitched the no hitter.
they asked about getting help. he talked about pitching. Great. Pitching is great. Always need it. Until all you do is start losing games 3-2, 4-3, 3-1.
Does he not see they need a RH bat off the bench at worst? They are so worried about defense that someone like Soto would not get a chance here.
They would need an extra roster spot to have a pure PH who can really only play 1B ....to help them against situations like this.
Like a Roger Freed circa 1977 or Kosco 1973.
They are just waiting for a miracle in Ludwick coming back healthy and hitting again. When does the light go on for the FO that what they have is not enough to help you?
Like Tom Servo said though...all it seems to matter is getting to the playoffs. How they are going to score runs seems not to be an issue as long as they get there.

Cozart is the only viable everyday option at SS in the upper levels of the organization. The Reds have a huge amount invested in him because if he fails, they have to go get a high-priced free agent or play an Izturis type. I'm saying send Cozart down, let him get his crap together in a no-pressure scenario, and then bring him back up. Take the temporary hit with the Three Stooges at SS for a couple of weeks. This club needs Zack Cozart to hit and he doesn't look like coming out of this slump in the majors.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
(sigh) Quickly two out.
I'm going to reiterate my position on Zach Cozart.
While it might be easy to scapegoat him, he is what he is, and that's a shortstop that will give you league average production (for his position) and top notch defense. He should never be slotted between the two best on base guys. It's lunacy. And THAT is the problem.
As much as I like Walt, he's been prone to sleeping on this team's greater issue, bench depth. They have nothing.
The fact that we're whining about the shortstop is evidence of that.

Reds outscored them 16-11 so it's good, right?

They just have no clue at the plate whatsoever. Seven pitches.
Pathetic series.
