The fact Walt acknowledged they were in discussions with Francouer is troubling even knowing he isn't coming here.

First of all it makes me wonder what has Walt thinking he needs LF help at this point? Secondly it makes me question his sanity if he seriously considered Francouer as potential help.

Doing due diligence on all possible options makes you question a GM's sanity? It's his job to be thorough.

I would question his sanity if he didn't explore every possible angle.

Much like focusing on how the Reds could have lost games they won, it's apparently important to focus on Walt not acquiring bad players as a sign of his ineffectiveness.

We really don't know what these discussions were. Francouer's agent could have called Walt and asked him if there was any interest in signing his client. Walt may have fell off his chair laughing at him. Then he might have told him that they would be interested in Francouer when hell freezes over. Now Francouer's agent can say he had discussions with the Reds which may have driven up demand for his client.

Call me nuts, but it's a good sign that Walt was talking to ANYONE.

He knows they have problems and is looking for solutions.

    It's a start.
