I wouldn't say I was showing early warning signs of a brain aneurysm, but I certainly did not want Frenchy on this team. Another hacker on a team full of them is not a prescription for success.
I am eager/curious to see what Uncle Walt does or does not do by the first trade deadline as well. C Trent's BAR for today on enquirer site had an interesting yet slightly horrifying idea that perhaps the Reds should look at Alfy Soriano...
As you said, Soriano is the opposite of what this team needs. He'd be a pretty bad pickup even if the Reds gave up nothing and paid none of his salary.
If the Reds are going to go big, I'd suggest Fowler, Aoki, or Rios. Fowler and Rios can both play a solid CF, so they could be useful next year even if Ludwick comes back strong. If the Reds want to be more conservative, someone like Nate Schierholtz could be an option.
I'm having a hard time gauging the Reds' actual ability to make a deal now that the AA and AAA teams are mostly depleted of talent and the budget is pretty thin. The system is currently bottom heavy, and it's tough to swing a deal with prospects that aren't as advanced. I'd give up Hamilton in the right deal, but I don't think I'd trade Winker or Stephenson, regardless of the return.
