Bronson Arroyo - one win from 100

Bronson Arroyo just won his 99th game for the Reds. Yes, I know pitcher wins are a silly stat, but when you accumulate 100 of them for a single club it signals longevity, durability and quality.

We haven't seen a Reds pitcher cross this line since Tom Browning did it in 1991. Mario Soto did it in 1988. Gary Nolan and Don Gullett did it in 1976. Jim Maloney did it in 1967. Bob Purkey did it in 1964. Joe Nuxhall did it in 1963.

And that's it since World War II. It doesn't happen often for the Reds. If you're a younger fan, you haven't seen a Reds pitcher hit the century mark.

So make sure you catch Arroyo's next start.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

I didn't realize he had that many wins as a Red.

Bronson has been this team's Mr. Reliable.

That's quite an accomplishment. Lets hope the next start is the 100th!

I think the fans as a whole are now realizing what Bronson Arroyo has meant for this team.

He's dependable for the 12-15 wins per year (14, 9, 15, 15, 17, 9, 12, 8*) and the 200+ innings (every year but 1) but look at the ERA. Under 4 for 5 out of his 8 years here (including so far this season). Never been on the DL, and has never missed a start.

They traded Wily Mo Pena for him....

Arroyo has quietly been one of the most durable, efficient pitchers for the Reds since we got him in 2005.

Hasn't ever missed a start, and 200+ IP every year with the exception of 2011. Very underrated starter. Someone is going to pay him 8 million next year, and he probably deserves it.

I too didn't realize Bronson had won that many games as a Red. He has been such a dependable pitcher, getting the maximum out of his physical talents. He probably is in his last year in a Reds uniform and I will be sorry to see him leave. A future member of the Reds Hall of Fame.

And the one year he fell short of 200 IP, he finished with 199.

Great job, Bronson! Would be fascinated to know how he stacks up against those guys in other respects statistically. Seems like he has been fortunate to pitch for some far better teams than Soto, for example.

Love this thread. I was just thinking yesterday how much more this team -- and its fans -- may miss Arroyo than they realize. For me, even though the Reds have a great stable of starters -- perhaps their best ever -- Arroyo is still the most interesting for me to watch. And to have seen his evolution over time (they were talking about it on the telecast last night) has been an education in the art of pitching. Make no mistake -- he's an artist. As the Giants announcers were saying about him, there is no pitcher in the major leagues like Bronson Arroyo.

Where is Wily Mo these days?

Arroyo seems a free spirit, but he takes his pitching craft ver seriously.
