Well done RB. I'd forgotten about Frank. And yes, it was starter only. For some reason I thought JB got voted in too.
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

    I cheated.
My first thought was Bench. I quickly went to baseball reference.com and checked out Bench, Robby and Rose, and found it was Frank.

I'm assuming they did. I remember voting when I was a kid back in the early 70's. No clue when they started.

    Hoover in.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Reds ballot stuffing was the next year, 1957, then it was shut down until the 70s.

I think fans selected the team in 1956. I haven't looked this up but I think it was in 1957 or 58 that Reds fans stuffed the ballot and produced an a NL all star team of all Reds save for Stan Musial, causing the vote by fans to be taken away until 1969.

Yep. Just checked. They started fan voting in 47. Reds fans ruined it in 57 by stuffing. Restarted it in 1970.

Yes and no. Robby got in about the time Reds fans voted en masse for the entire team. MLB honchos were so outraged that they took the vote away from the fans. JB got on the team as a backup during the players voting era. Vote returned to the fans in the 70's.
