Good for him. He was owning the Midwest League anyway.

IMO Stephenson will be at AAA before you know it. When the Reds sense a real major leaguer, they don't waste a lot of time.

I say AA relatively early next season, AAA by the end of the season, possibly the big leagues September 2014 or April 2015.

This seems about right, especially when you look at the success of a guy like Jose Fernandez this year, who was Stephenson's peer in the draft.

If Cingrani is the heir to Arroyo's spot in the rotation, Stephenson appears to be the heir to his predecessor in pitching prospect status and pedigree, Homer Bailey, who may likely leave as a FA after next season.

With upcoming games at Modesto, Stockton, and San Jose, it gives the kid a chance to pitch a few games close to home, before moving up next year.

I'm more impressed by how aware he is that velocity won't cut it alone - and that he is working hard on his change up. Add a good changeup to his curve and fastball and RS might just be the starter everyone hoped Chapman would be.

I wonder if he'll try to develop a fourth pitch. A splitter or cutter, or maybe a slider.
Sabermetrics is this: A batter's goal is to extend the inning. Extend enough innings and you're going to score runs. Extend more innings than your opponent and you're going to score more runs than him.

Forget the rain. It's never an official game until the Reds piss away a run between third base and home plate. - Bluegrass Redleg

Hire Mariano Rivera to teach RS his cutter. That pitch has been dominating batters for almost 20 years now.

Better, get Soto to Bakersfield for awhile. No one teaches a changeup better than Mario Soto.

Can you just imagine the hitter's dismay if Stephenson followed up a 100 MPH heater with a 65 MPH knuckleball?

Does anybody know what is up with Stephenson? He has not pitched since 7/29 and is not slated to pitch tonight either?
