    Minor League Updates: Wednesday 7/17/2013

Billy Hamilton went 1-4 in the AAA ASG. He stole a base and scored a run.
Greg Reynolds started the game for the IL and was the winning pitcher. He did allow two runs in his inning on the mound.

Bakersfield fell to the Visalia Rawhide 4-0.

Jonathan Moscot went the first six innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits. He did strike out six while walking just one Rawhide. Sean Lucas and Brooks Pinckard finished things up.
The bats, with the exception of Ryan Wright, pretty much took the night off.
Wright went 2-4 to lift his average to .270. Juan Duran singled, walked and gunned down a runner at the plate. Yovan Gonzalez singled in three trips.

    Dayton
also tasted defeated, losing 4-2 to Beloit.

Sal Romano had an adventurous outing. He struck out five in four innings. He also walked five and allowed five hits. He was touched up for a pair of runs, just one earned. Alejandro Chacin hurled three scoreless frames, fanning three. Wandy Peralta and Kyle McMyne each surrendered a run in their inning of work.

The Dragons trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth. A Sammy Diaz single and a Jesse Winker rally killer halved the deficit but that was all they could muster.

Winker walked, doubled and homered, driving in both Dayton runs. He also threw out a runner at second. Joe Hudson had a pair of singles. Amaral, Diaz and Mejias-Brean each had a single as well.

Billings lost to Grand Junction 5-4.

Ben Lively once again went three innings and once again pitched shutout baseball. 15IP 10H 4BB 21K 0.00 ERA on the season.
Daniel Wright gave up a pair of runs in three innings. Nick Fleece pitched a perfect frame, recording 2 Ks. Austin Muehring blew the save, giving up three runs on three hits. Joe Mantoni kept his ERA spotless, striking out the side in the ninth. In seven appearances spanning 7.2 innings, Mantoni has yet to give up a run, earned or unearned. He has struck out 13 and walked 4.

Jon Matthews had two hits as his push to get up over the Mendoza line continues.
    Ty Washington (.333) doubled.
Ronald Bueno (.341) singled and doubled.
Taylor Terrasas walked and blasted a solo home run.
Phil Ervin walked, singled and nailed a runner at home.

AZL Reds beat the AZL Brewers 4-3.

Kevin Arico started and went just one scoreless innings in his first action of the season.
Manuel Aybar took over pitching duties and shut down the Brewers on one hit over 4.2 innings. He did walk four batters and struck out two.
Ty Boyles worked the next 2.1 innings in fine fashion. He kept the Brewers off the scoreboard while notching Ks. He allowed just one baserunner.
Chad Jones came on in the ninth to nail things down and failed miserably. He faced three batters and retired none.
Oswaldo Mieres came on and retired the side and get the win as the AZL Reds rallied for a run in the bottom half of the ninth.

Aristides Aquino carried a huge part of the offensive load by singling twice, tripling, scoring twice and driving in a run.
Jose Duarte went 2-4. He singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Kevin Franklin was 1-4 but his single brought home the winning run. The big slugger is off to a rough professional start. .200/
    297/.262/.559 to date.

NOTE: Kevin Arico is on a rehab assignment from Dayton. Hence the one-inning start.

The DSL Reds fell to the DSL Twins in a wild one - 13-11.

Highly-touted Jacob Constante was roughed up to the tune of 3 runs in 2.1 innings. His control was the problem. He gave up just one hit but walked four. He did strike out three batters. The pitching did not get any better after he was lifted from the contest.

Geraldo Valor went 2-3 and walked twice. He scored twice and drove in a run. He also stole home. Nice.
Jose Siri also went 2-3 with two walks. He scored three runs and threw a runner out trying to score.
Raynar Guerrero was 2-5. He pushed three runs across.
Miguel Mendez was 1-3 with two walks. He scored twice.

The DSL Rojos fumbled and bumbled their way to an 11-7 loss. They trailed at one point 11-0, committing 6 errors in the process.

Gregory Reinoso and Hernando Guzman pitched the five innings without allowing a run. But it was a case of too little, too late.

Maikel Lopez singled and doubled. He scored twice.
Cesar Mejia walked and singled twice. He had three ribbies.
Alfredo Mateo, who had appeared in 12 games as a pitcher, made his first start as a regular. He played center and went 3 for 4. (Unless there are two Alfredo Mateos)
His pitching line on the season was: 10.0IP 13H 15R 13ER 14BB 10K 2HBP 5WP. So maybe he has made the switch to position player.

Tim Crabbe and Shaun Ellis both pitched in the AA ASG. The SL South one-hit the North. Crabbe gave up the only hit.

Mike Hessman is only 14 home runs away from being the all-time IL leader in that category. Something to watch during the second half.

Ryan Wright is tearing it up in July. His line: .333/.356/.526/./882. Just 6 Ks in approximately 63PA.

Robert Stephenson's last outing was on the 13th. He isn't going tonight (18th-James Allen listed). Maybe tomorrow night he will make his High A debut.

Bakersfield is having another Thirsty Thursday. Tecate and Chick Fil-A. A dangerous, dangerous combo.

Ismael Guillon will try to harness his pitches at 7:05 tonight. The game will be televised on WHIO digital channel 7.2 and Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372.
