As I was saying last night, and was misunderstood by my esteemed colleague from Da Bronx, it doesn't take a great left-hander like Kershaw to shut down this lineup as it is presently constructed. Even a decent one (Ryu) or a nondescript journeyman (Capuano) is enough to do it. The point was that pedestrian is the only level that matters. Does he wear a glove on his right hand? Great. You're good to go vs. the Reds. Anything above it is gravy.

    They need some help, Walt.

How does Walt watch this and think to himself "nah, we don't need to add anything."

Another 1-2-3 inning for Cingrani. Through 5 both teams with 1 hit apiece.

I think it is more a matter of what is actually available and is it really an upgrade to what we have. I just don't think Michael Young and Alexi Ramirez really improve the team much if any.

After five innings, Reds 0, Dodgers 0.

Capuano at 60 pitches, 42 strikes.
Cingrani at 67 pitches, 47 strikes.

Each pitcher has allowed 1 hit, 0 BBs. Cingrani has 7 Ks, Capuano 4 Ks.

We had a chance to really make a statement the last few days and once again, nobody on offense decides to show up. Chris capuano?

At least Walt understands the issue. He said that he's shopping for a right handed hitter.

Fair enough, though I still think you are underselling Ryu a bit. Still, there's no reason why Capuano should be dominating them today.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Very fine at bat by Mesoraco. Does a very nice job judging balls and strikes.
