I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that most of the leagues have an agreement with baseball to NOT let suspended players play, I'm pretty sure Japan is one of those leagues.
Whether Arod plays another game or not he is going to get paid handsomely. He still has a few years left on his current contract, I believe 3, not quite sure. The Yanks can release him, but they still would owe him the money, about 60 million!!!
I can't see him playing in another league especially as injury prone as he is right now. The Yankees are looking at anything they can scrape up to get out of paying him his salary. If he plays somewhere else and gets any knick or cut, the Yanks will use it as an excuse not to pay him. He can't take that risk
I don't see him playing anywhere else either, would be dumb to I think. Like you said, if he gets hurt he could be out 60 million dollars. If he just sits around for a year and then go back to the Yanks he is gonna get paid...unless they work out a settlement. Even then Arod would be dumb to do that. He should let them release him, then he would be free to sign elsewhere and still get his 60 million...and thats what its all about to Arod...$$$$$$$

This, I guess, is the danger in moralizing on top of a soapbox....in the case of mlb, doing so requires altering history (or turning a blind eye to large swaths of baseball history). In this case, in order to demonize a player for doing what he did for money, one has to treat as heroes, the owners who allowed the player to do what he did so they could make lots of money and then couldn't care less about laws and rules because they continue to do what they do for money.

Lets not make up history to create a golden age of myth....lets just get back to the business of sorting it out statistically and appreciating baseball for what it is because we can accurately model a context of what it was and how what it was relates to what our children are watching. The upside? Truth is kind of cool and one can get there without the risk of injury from a fall and even if one suffers from vertigo-in fact, kicking the soapbox out of the way is a prerequisite.

I don't think turning a blind eye to something is the moral equivalent of doing it. The owners didn't initiate this, they had it thrown on them and they had the choice of whether to come forward and damage the reputation of baseball (and their profits) or keep it quiet. You may not think they chose rightly, but they didn't ask to be put in that position.

Poor owners though, they didn't ask to become richer as steroids fueled America's renewed love affair with a game they divorced following bitter labor relation battles.... The owners weren't in a position that was out of their control. It's shenanigans to argue otherwise.

About the same time Arod was apologizing he was saying that Bosch had given him a placebo. I'm sure he really meant that apology.
