ESPN Insider says Matheny costing Cards the pennant. Does anyone subscribe to ESPN insider and have knowledge what the article says?
In a nutshell, The articles states the following:
* The Cards have fared poorly in close games, which, in the opinion of the author, reflects poorly on game management.
For example: The Run Differential has fallen from +11 in 2010-2011 to -34 in 2012-2013.
* Bullpen struggles, partially due to Matheney "not placing his pitchers in the best position to succeed", stating that the Pirates' shutdown/meltdown differential is greater than the Cards' number of total shutdowns.
* Misused bench:
Matheny doesn't place his pinch-hitters into high-leverage situations often enough. The league-average for pinch hitters is 1.36. The Cards rank last at 1.01.
Whatever you do, do your best to not allow the struggles of life to interfere with the pleasures of living.
I agree that matheny is a poor tactician, but at the same time he has managed this team to the divisional lead heading into September while having to use 17 different rookies.
I think his clubhouse abilities are great while his in game strategy is often lacking. Who does that remind some of?
And how many times have the REDS lost to his Cardinals??? 9 times out of 13 games!!

Wainwright threw 128 pitches in his outing previous to tonight's. I know he was a workhorse, but he still isn't that far removed from TJ surgery.
He's now at 200 innings as well, with a month to go and then the playoffs. We'll see how his arm reacts.
