If there's any potential of Hanigan being done (and no hope of finding an alternative), Mes needs to start catching Homer NOW instead of this personal catcher stuff. I want Homer making multiple starts in any short series but I certainly don't want Corky making any starts at all.

Interesting article on wild-card playoff roster possibilities.

3 of the last 4 seven game series had went for 9 days....which is what I used.

I went back through about 5 seven games series and the #11 pitcher typically has a series stat line of 1 inn, 3 hits, 2 ER

He is batting pretty well and is a decent RH power bat that we could use if Ludwick returns like Votto did last year.

It's a plus that Izturis is a switch hitter? Do switch hitters get to start with a 3-0 count in the playoffs this year? If not i think I'd rather have any other Reds hitter go R on R or L on L than swapping in Izturis for a "R/L advantage".

No way Hamilton makes that roster. Once the networks turn on the bright playoff TV lights, its not a place for an untested rookie.

Billy Hamilton has been on a tear recently.

Last 10 games he is batting .286 with 5 runs scored, 7 RBIs, and 6 SB.

Last 5 games he is batting .400 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and 4 SB.

His average is up to .253 which isn't great, but his recent uptick in production hopefully means he is starting to be adjusted to AAA.

To run? I guess I assumed anyone talking about carrying Hamilton would be doing so exclusively as a Pinch Runner. I can't imagine wanting him to bat in this year's playoffs.

Plus I want my free taco from Taco Bell when he steals a base in the WS.

    Re: 2013 Playoff Roster

Well now that we have seen a few of the September call ups, what does everybody think?

I think Billy definitely deserves a spot on the playoff roster.

Duke looks like a pretty solid lefty reliever. Possibly keep Cingrani a SP and bring Duke up as another lefty specialist.

On the other hand, I think that Izturis, Hannahan, and Simon should all be in jeopardy of not going to the playoffs. I know it won't happen, but Hannahan brings nothing to the table IMO. No power, relativley no hitting, and nothing else this team already has or could have with someone else.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd much prefer Cingrani to Leake in my playoff rotation.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I can see it, but having a RH starter for one or two times through the order followed by a guy like Cingrani for 2 or 3 innings to turn line-ups around and give a different look seems like a good plan to me. I want 12 pitchers so this team could be managed aggressively. Don't allow hitters to get too comfortable by getting too many looks at a guy. If a starter isn't dominating, nobody gets a 3rd look at him IMO.

    Re: 2013 Playoff Roster

Billy Hamilton is eligible for the Reds' playoff roster.

Advice: Hamilton wasn't added to the 40-man roster until September 2, but MLB rules allow Cincinnati to replace a player on the disabled list (in this case, Nick Masset) on the playoff roster with a player who wasn't on the 40-man roster at the end of August. Expect to see Hamilton in the postseason. The fastest player in the game makes for a terrifying bench weapon in October.
