Just read that Lenhardts won't be reopening. For those that don't know, that place had the best German/Hungarian cuisine in town, without a doubt. The owner would buy meat from the butcher and hand carve it himself. The Saurbraten and Spaetzle... the Kaisler Ripchen... out of this world.
Now it's gone. The old building will be "bulldozed for student housing."
Clifton has lost a lot of its history lately to development. Uncle Woodys, Inn the Wood, Acropolis Chili, Papa Dinos, all gone.
Progress is good, of course. But the "neighborhood charm" I remember noticing when I first stepped foot into Clifton many years ago seems to be long gone.
Perspective is important too I guess. I remember being mad when they closed down Ripleys and opened up a Chipotle there. And Corry's closing with Mad Frog taking its place.
I guess it's better. Calhoun Street used to be a strip of bars, restaurants, and drive thru fast food. Now it is a strip mall with student housing above. Just seems so bland though. Maybe that is the idea.
