Or "Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop," is something the Reds seem to be producing more of this year than I can recall in the past few...Has anyone else noticed this? It's one thing to be aggressive on that single to right to ensure a throw to allow a runner to score, but it's another to flat out not be paying attention to the game situation and looking like a .... nincompoop.

So, my questions are twofold.

1. Am I alone in noticing a definite uptick in nincompoopery on the basepaths? (nincompoop...such a fun word)

2. WHO, if anyone, coaches baserunning with the Reds?

You are not alone in your observations. My guess is Billy Hatcher coaches baserunning but I wouldn't pin the problem on one specific coach. This is something they should have down before they get to the majors.

Could be the pressure of an offense struggling to score runs at the time. Each player who gets on base feels like they have to do more than normal and so they try that much harder and ignore their coaching.

Exactly. If this was single or double A then I would question the coaching. By the time guys get to the majors it's all about effort and mindset.
