A salary standpoint? He makes 700k this year. Pro-rate that and the Reds would pay him what, 250k? He's better than Heisey and Paul.

    I don't get it.

Reds are clearly satisfied to be the number 2 wild card. Bryd has either a huge character flaw they didn't want to deal with or the organization is flat busted broke. Really no reason otherwise not to put a claim on Bryd. He's been more productive than anything else the Reds have had in LF and he's comes cheap on top of that.

Nevermind. I thought I had read he was signed for next year for a lot more. I just looked it up and he wasn't.

I take back everything I said. I don't get it lol

MLBTR had it at 130k for the rest of the year.

Not sure about that. I do know they traded Jonny Gomes about two nights after his bobblehead night.

It probably won't/wouldn't have made much of a difference, but I really just don't get the logic behind this one.

I didn't really want Byrd, but yeah, I don't get why Walt didn't block it.

Come on man, just admit it, Walt screwed the pooch on this one. The in-season team management by the Gm in 2013 has been a joke. Period, end of story.

::edit:: Didn't see your post after this one.

How much salary does Buck have left? Maybe NY would've pulled him back if they didn't also take Buck?

He is owed $6 million this year, not sure who covers what.

Totally no possible way for the entire organization to defend this move. Just an absolute complete sign of apathy by all involved.

That's fine. Then the Pirates wouldn't have gotten either of them.

    No downside to claiming Byrd.

$6 million, pro-rated portion would be about $1,110,000 or so.
