... to become only the 4th player in history to reach 180 hits/130 walks in a single season. The other three were Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Ted Williams.

Pretty good company.
Rounding third and heading for home...
That would be awesome! That is some elite company!
But Iwould much prefer that he gets one key hit, like a 2 out double in the 8th that plates 2 runs giving the Reds a run lead, and then Chappy shuts them down to secure a Home game on TUES. night.
Of course he can do that after already having 5 or more hits.
And the first to do it without collecting 100 RBI.
Not that obscure IMO. It shows me:
(1) pitchers are afraid to throw strikes to Votto.
(2) Votto has a good eye.
(3) when they do throw strikes, he gets hits.
(4) Votto is a rare treat and all REDS fans should be thankful to have him.
(5) team MVP to any position player not named Votto is foolish.
Ruth, Gehrig, Williams. Ruth, Gehrig, Williams. WOW!

Sample Season when those other three pulled the 180/130:
Ruth 1921: .378-59-171 RBI
Gehrig 1936 .354-49-152 RBI
Ted Williams: 1949 .343-43-153 RBI
Votto: .304-24-73.
Enough said.
What is obscure about walks and hits?

I know that I am not simple-minded enough to look at the above data and mock Joey Votto. Of course mocking Votto when comparing him to three guys that may well be in the top 5 position players of all time is really dumb. Enough said.
If only RZ held it's members to such lofty posting standards. Might not be any of us left (except Raisor).

I find it a really interesting stat. Thanks for posting it, NYRed. Would that we had a couple more non-RBI producers like Joey.
