Actually, might kill 3 birds. Young could be an ideal 2-hole hitter in this lineup. I would prefer him batting cleanup, actually, but you know Dusty isn't pulling BP out of that cleanup spot this year.
Young would have to approve trade - not gonna happen.

I agree. While I don't think Rios is very good and is having a lucky year for his standards (and has that absurd contract) no way he would fall all the way to the Reds, IMO.

Why do you say this? Cincinnati is a winner with tradition. Why are you so certain Michael Young would reject a trade here? Playing in a bandbox the final 1.5 months would help his offensive numbers heading into free agency too. (Not that Philly's park is much bigger, but they did at least move the fences back.) I hope you're wrong on Young -- would love to see him as a Red. That could be the kind of move that pushes this team over the top. We've got the pitching. We need a 3B and another good RH bat. Young is both.

The Reds had a chance to claim Young (who isn't owed a lot of money) and passed.

    Not sure they want him.

Makes absolutely no sense, unless the Phillies are asking for the farm for Young.

    Rangers. Oh well.

They always make me jealous with their moves (Matt Garza and Ryan Dempster trades aside).

I'm not saying I agree with it, but why wouldn't you claim him and limit his and the Phillies options?

Young said he would only approve trades to the Rangers, Red Sox, and Yankees. I suppose he could change his mind, but I would be surprised.

He's a big lover of National League baseball, eh?

2:45pm: The Rangers are the team that claimed Rios, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News (on Twitter). Grant cautions that claiming Rios and actually striking a deal to acquire the 32-year-old are very different things.

I agree. Not a good sign for those of us that are hoping Young becomes a Red. Not good at all.

Walt, you still in there Walt? Walt? WALT!?

Does absolutely nothing to help this team before the July 31 trading deadline. Zero. Yeah, I definitely shouldn't expect any big moves in the near future. Very disappointing. This team is very close to having all the pieces needed to win the WS. We might never see a starting pitching staff this good in Cincinnati again (well, maybe next year, ha).

The Rangers trade for Garza and then pick up Rios on waivers (we'll see if he actually becomes a Ranger).

Now that's a front office out there working hard trying to improve the club. It's so much easier to sit back and do nothing. Thank goodness most of the NL GMs seem to be on "sleep mode" as well.

I think the Rangers claiming Rios has more to do with Nelson Cruz being suspended for the rest of the season than improving the club. To me it reeks of desperation.

Standing pat with Todd Frazier as our everyday 3B in the midst of a pennant race reeks of something. And Jack Hannahan sure isn't the answer.
