In fairness that is true of most teams. That's why it is good pitching.

Reds have registered 10 SOs today. All season Lynn has shown to be a pretty hittable pitcher, yet the Reds only have 3 against him so far.... These bats need a jolt!

    MAYBE...but in the offseason.

It's just lazy by the Reds. "Oh, Villarreal is on the 40-man roster, let's call him up!" Who cares if he's on the 40-man? Take him off the 40-man if you need to. He's not good and the Reds shouldn't care if another team claims him (which I can't imagine would happen since Villarreal can't even get AAA hitters out).
Gallarraga has been gone from the organization for a few weeks. The Reds only reasonable choice was Sharky Rogers and he started last night. I'm guessing they didn't think it was worth missing his start (and burning an option) when they knew that this was only pitching when it didn't matter.

And the Reds allow Zach Duke to "opt out" rather than call him up. Yep, wouldn't want to risk losing studs like Villarreal off our 40-man roster. Great call, Walt!

I bet Walt is currently taking his second nap of the day.

Might be a bit early for that... this is his first year in the minors, and he's in Single-A.

That would be quite some ascent though! not sure if any players have achieved that.

Apparently there is a whole Wikipedia page on players who made their debut in the Majors without playing a game at a Minor League affiliate (this doesnt count Winter or Fall leagues).

Mike Leake was on of them.... should have known that!

I get it that it looks bleak at times, but c'mon....there's 2 freaking months left! You know how many things can (and will) happen in that space of time? Arizona could go on a tear, the Pirates could lose 8 strait, all KINDS of things could happen. And maybe one of those things could be the Reds catching fire.

Remember boys, pitching is king. The Reds have that. Frazier will get some big hits, Luddy WILL return. Good luck vs the West this week.

After two against Oakland, the Reds get 10 against the Padres, Cubs and Brewers. So there is that.
A summer watching a bad Reds' team, is still a pretty good summer.

wow i go do something else and tape the game as the Reds were down only 4-2 and now its 11-2????? Congrads Walt on sitting still and accepting less than .500 play for the past 2 months!!! No changes at all that help the team and you wonder why they are puttering along. Watch the Dbacks and A's sweep their butts...

I guess Villarreal isn't on until the bitter end after all.
