You guys have Devin Mesoraco in there again. Boy! He really torched us last night.

The Cardinals are playing the final of the series against one of the other three clubs from the old 19th Century American ASSOCIATION that continue to operate TO THIS DAY. The Pirates and the Dodgers are the other two. The Cardinals and Reds are also two of the SEVEN active franchises that have 10000 or more lifetime victories. The Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, and Pirates are the others. The all-time ranking of the Sacred Seven in order is as follows.....

    1. Giants - 10665 - Established 1883
    2. Cubs - 10421 - Established 1876*
    3. Dodgers - 10363 - Established 1884
    4. Cardinals - 10347 - Established 1882
    5. Braves - 10194 - Established 1876*
    6. Reds - 10152 - Established 1882
    7. Pirates - 10027 - Established 1882

    * - The Braves were established as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871 when they were members of the National Association, which, for historical purposes, is NOT considered to be a major league. The Cubs were established as the Chicago White Stockings also in 1871 and also members of the National Association. Both teams continued as members of the NA until the league's demise following the 1875 Season. When the National League of Professional Base Ball Clubs was formed in 1876, the franchises now known as the Braves and Cubs were both absorbed into the new league where they remain to this day. However, the White Stockings suspended operations for two years because of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which makes the Atlanta Braves the oldest continuously operating franchise in Major League Baseball.
