It's not the hitting coach. It's a slump and eventually a slump gets into a guy's head. That's the problem, not mechanics.

And even with all of Todd's struggles...he's been a beast with the glove.

than why have a hitting coach??
there's nothing like bowling a 300 game! 13 now and retired.

    Yay Reds!
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

A hitting coach can try to do things to break you out of a slump, but their main skill is in teaching the mechanics of a swing and fixing flawed mechanics. Todd's mechanics are funky and always have been. Some guys just have weird swings. But it's not his swing that's the problem right now, it's his head. Just like a golfer who gets the shanks. It's in his head. IMO, when a guy is stuck in a rut this badly, the best thing to do is to give him a few days off and tell him to go do something non-baseball related to get him to stop thinking about it.

How about the bullpen again. I kinda figured this would be a heartbreaking loss after they cut the lead to 1. Not today. Big win. What's the magic number now?

Nice sweep. And I have to say I was 100% wrong about Manny Parra. Whatever they did to fix him has worked.
