If you do that, they will find a way to blame Chapman, and we'll have to deal with Burnett tweeting about it until the end of time.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

As I said in another thread, we'll be in first place by Aug 25.

As for cursed objects, I'd recommend Logan Ondrusek.

The 1978 Yankees were 14 games back of the Red Sox on July 19 and ended up tied with the Red Sox for the division title, then went on to win the one game playoff. 7 games is not a lot next to that.

    July 19-48-42, -14 GB
    Aug 9-63-49, -7.5 GB
    Aug 30- 76-54, -7 GB
    Sep 8- 84-56-, 2 GB
    Sep 10- 86-56- Tied

Finished 99-63, beat the Red Sox in one game playoff as mentioned before.

Coolstandings.com has us up from 6.4% to 10.4% chance of winning the Central.

Anything is possible until it isn't.

In all seriousness, though, what happened with ATL and STL a couple of years ago with the wild card is proof that it's almost never too late.

And with PIT loss in COL today, it's now 11.2%.

This weekend could not have gone better for us.

I guess, technically, we could have won 1 more and the Cardinals could have lost 1 more. Noting that, however, the Rockies swept Pitt, we took 2/3 over SD, and the lowly Cubbies 2/3 over the Cardinals, we pick up a game on the Cards and 2 games on the Pirates. Can't ask for more than that on the 3-game weekend.

Despite what Ken Broo and Doc Rodgers say on WLW, I think the division is there to be had. Well within reach of our Redlegs.

Agreed. 5 games seems totally doable, while for some reason, 7 seemed practically insurmountable. Odd how that works.

While 50 games isn't a whole lot of time to make up a gap, crazy things happen over 50 games. Teams can get red hot and teams can go into a funk. Teams can win 10 in a row or lose 8 out of 10. I have no idea what the Pirates are going to do from here on out. It would surprise me if they didn't hit a rough patch.
Possible, but not likely, and even less so for the Cards to do the same thing. That's the tricky part trying to leapfrog two clubs.

Reds play the Pirates six more times. If they go 4-2, that means they just have to pick up three more games in all the other games. Very doable.

Way crazier things have happened, and worse teams have made comebacks than these Reds. IMO, this weekend was a sign of things to come.

Re: Is winning the division out of reach?

They just made up what, 30 percent of their first place deficit in just a matter of ~7 percent of the games left to be played. (Those numbers just an estimate done in my head)

A lot of baseball left to be played, and while the Reds have played less than stellar lately, the recent events out of STL and Pitt bear watching.

Pitching down the stretch run is going to be hairy for those teams.

Can I claim reverse jinx? Or is it too early?
