Is Joey Votto the 2013 NL MVP ?

I don't see a real contender besides Goldschmidt (thanks commenters), Cargo and Cutch, maybe Molina if he comes back strong. Am I missing someone playing well and in contention?

    First in adjusted OPS+
    Second in OPS
    First in OBP
    4th in AVG
    5th in offensive player WAR
    Top 10 slugging
    Nearly Top 10 HRs
    2nd in runs
    2nd in hits

He's good in the counting stats, sans RBI and he's awesome in the SABR stats.

Yeah, Kershaw. He's right there with McCutchen.

It'll be McCutchen, I imagine. It should be too, honestly.
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

Clayton Kershaw since there is no clear cut position player this year, at least up to this point. I'm guessing someone will emerge though when it's all said and done.

A pitcher hasn't won the NL MVP since Bob Gibson 1968 (ERA+ 258). Is this really the year that it's going to happen again? Kershaw's ERA+ is 171.

If the Pirates hold on to the Central it is Cutch.

But Votto is my #2. No one else that is deserving is on a contender. Kershaw doesn't have a great W-L. If the Reds make a run and the Bucs don't hold on to first, Joey has a shot.

Pirates and Cutch are the feel good story right now.

None can live up to Joey's statline. If MVP is based on stats...

    I think Goldschmidt does, personally.

Voters may look at HR and RBI. Goldschmidt could be the guy. Joey only has him by 20 OPS points.

Frazier has a higher WAR than Pedro.

Let's live in reality and assume you have to make the playoffs to win this. Or be head and shoulders above the rest.

On closer look Goldschmidt does hold up well vs. Joey. Votto's previous win, .325 AVG, league leading categories and the playoff implications might lean in JV's favor.

Think voters will care? Alvarez leads the league in HR and is up there in RBI. I doubt he is seriously considered though. I'd say its Cutch, Votto, Goldie or Kershaw. Injuries to Molina and Cargo and the Rockies swoon probably eliminates those guys. If Molina comes back strong, he could still be in it.

I was just eliminating Pedro from the discussion.
