Just call me Legs
Good call by Welsh. Swung and missed and the ball hit him. He's out.
Venable's PA is a metaphor for the Padres' season.
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner

Rocket shot hit right to Votto. 2 down.
Leake is getting hit pretty hard.

Headley blasts one past Votto/Phillips. 2 out single.
I really hope to see the Padres flip Alonso to the AL before long, we only play SD a few games a year but he is 100% locked in against our pitching.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
Heck of a running grab by Heisey! Nice snag.

So, does Paul make that catch? Seriously asking.
That inning is a perfect example of the power of defense and why one shouldn't ignore pitcher peripherals in favor of ERA, especially with the Reds staff. Pitchers on the Reds get so much help from their defense. That Padres would've scored a bare minimum of 1 run that inning with the Ms defense behind him....who knows how many an extra out or two could lead to?

Leake leads off with a single.
