Thursday August 22nd Minor League Update

Sitting in Huntsville behind home plate...right beside radar gun... Stephenson is 96 a lot.... 97 tops I have seen.

    A little wild right now

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

    Stadium gun or scout/team gun?

I am listening online. Sounds like his last start.... stuff is there, control isn't.

Stephenson loads the bases in the fourth on a walk and back-to-back singles with nobody out. He then proceeds to strike out three straight. Through four he has given up a run. And he has also struck out six.

    Unearned, for those wondering.

    Stadium.

I wonder if he is too rested... Didn't he get an extra day?

He did. He skipped a start two turns ago. Struggled with control in the last start too.

1-2-3 fifth for Stephenson. Two more Ks, making that 8 on the night.

I think he is done. My son has been keeping score and says he is at 90 pitches. It was dominant the last 6 batters.

Loek van Mil about to pitch next inning... He's freakin HUGE.

Those 8 tool a LOT of work. He might have had no earned runs but he wasn't in control until he loaded the bases last inning. He turned it on then.

I would agree. That is all for Stephenson. That was a Cingrani-like outing.

Pensacola ties it up with a run in the top half of the sixth. LaMarre triples, Costanzo singles. 1-1.

Watch the radar gun on him too. Throws awfully hard.

I had no idea Wilt Chamberlin played in the minors for the Reds. I remember the signing but didn't realize he was in AA. I don't think he threw one off speed pitch. All 93-95...if I remember correctly. He needs something else to keep people guessing.

Honestly his 95 looked slower than Stephensons...I don't know why that is but it did.
